“A Moment in Time”– This exhibition examines the rich and ancient landscape into which the explorers entered. It moves on to explore may aspects of the crossing story, and closes with the life and achievements of some of the earliest settlers in the Hartley Valley. Where: Old Hartley School, Mid Hartley Road, Hartley. When: 18 May- 16 June, 10am- 3pm on weekends and by appointment.
The Governors Visit- Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO will officiate at a number of events throughout the day. Where: Hartley Historic Village and Old Hartley School, Hartley. When: Saturday 1 June, from 10am.
Blue Mountains Crossing Film Festival- Short films related to the crossings and the early inhabitants of the Hartley Valley at the Community Cinema. Where: Lithgow Valley Community Cinema. When: Friday 7 June 10.30am, Saturday 8 June 1.30pm.
Music, Markets & Plane Spotting- Promises to be a superb day out for the family. In addition to all that is happening on the ground, the school will be the major viewing location for the Blue Mountains Crossing Bicentennial Flyover, including the famous RAAF aerial acrobatics team the Roulettes and a C-130 Hercules. Where: Old Hartley School, Mid Hartley Road, Hartley. When: Saturday 25 May, from 10am.
Walk the Journey- These walks provide a unique and stunning introduction to Cox’s Road through the Hartley Valley and the route taken by Blaxland, Lawson & Wentworth. The full walk covers 10 kilometers, and is moderately strenous, while the half walk is a gentler proposition. Walkers will be accompanied throughout by a local guide and will be bussed from the school to the walk start and back to the school at the end of the walk. Where: Starts at Old Hartley School, Mid Hartley Road, Hartley. When: 26th and 30th May, 2nd and 9th June.
Crossing- Through song and movement, the performers will take you on a journey through your own past- from the 40 000 years of Aboriginal crossings to the Blaxland, Lawson & Wentworth crossing in 1813 to the early free settlers like Elizabeth Hawkins and her eight children. Where: Tree View Estate, 30 May. Where: Union Theatre, 6 June.
Hartley Vale Cemetery Open Day- Historic Hartley Vale Cemetery will be open to the public with guides available to tell you the remarkable stories of the inspiring people who are buried here. Many of the first settlers of the Hartley Valley are interned in this cemetery. Where: Hartley Vale Cemetery, Fields Road, Hartley Vale. When: Sunday 2 June, 10am- 4pm.
